Canine Bowen Technique (CBT) in YorkAs a qualified and experienced complementary therapist, I provide Canine Bowen Technique from home in Thorganby in York, and also by home visits.
What is the Canine Bowen Technique?Canine Bowen Technique is a gentle, non-invasive, light touch therapy which promotes the dog’s body to use its own healing abilities. It often results in pain relief, more energy and a general rebalancing of the body. There is no manipulation, adjustment of hard tissue, or force needed. What are the origins of Canine Bowen Technique? The Canine Bowen Technique is based on the principles of the Bowen Technique. Its adaptation in the UK for use on dogs was begun in 2001 by Bowen therapists Sally and Ron Askew, who integrated it into their own behavioural and rehabilitation work. In 2003 they founded the European Guild of Canine Bowen Therapists (EGCBT) to bring this exciting modality to both the UK and mainland Europe. Can Canine Bowen Technique help your dog? CBT is complementary to and not a substitute
for conventional veterinary care. It is only available on vet’s
referral (referral forms available from me). Because of the rebalancing/optimising effects Canine Bowen Technique has both locally and elsewhere in its body it can help dogs with:
Although classed as a remedial therapy it can also be used to keep working and competition dogs in optimum balance and performing at their best. What does a Canine Bowen Technique treatment involve?First I will take a case history of your dog then I will observe how your dog moves before examining it closely for any tender areas. This also helps the dog to get used to me touching it before starting the session. The Canine Bowen Technique treatment involves using thumbs and fingers on precise points on the body to make small, gentle rolling moves over muscles and ligaments. These gentle moves disturb the muscle and soft tissue within the body, causing subtle changes, relieving pain and tension, and initiating the healing process. During the session short intervals will be left between the moves to allow this process to take effect. An important part of the technique is to recognise and respect when the dog indicates it has received what it needs for that session. Therapy is never forced on the dog as this will be counter productive to the outcome. How Long Will A Session Take? A normal session will last about 20 minutes.
However the first session will last longer as a case
history has
to be taken
first and it may take time for nervous dogs
to allow me to touch them. Further information can
be found on
the European
Guild of Canine Bowen Therapists website How much will each Canine Bowen Technique session cost? The initial consultation costs £25, but thereafter treatments are £20.
